Reactive machines: This is the basic type of artificial intelligence. This type of artificial intelligence analyses the present situation and environment and takes the decision. They observe the speed, direction and working mechanism of cars and other vehicles around them. These observations get added to their preprogrammed software. They also observe traffic lights, curves on the roads or lane markings. However, these representations are transient and do not get saved permanently.  Humans can compile their previous memories and experiences and save it in their brains, but in the case of cars, these experiences are saved on a temporary basis. Other examples of this type are chatbots and personal digital assistants.

Theory of mind: In this type, machines or robots can understand human emotions, motives, intentions, expectations and behaviors. In psychology, this is called as ‘theory of mind’. Due to this capacity of comprehending human emotions, they can also socially interact, both with humans as well as other machines. The importance of this type of artificial intelligence is that, if the machines have to live among humans, they should be able to understand human emotions and interact accordingly.
